Catania in one hour


Route n° 1                                 
Departure from piazza Duomo: in the centre the symbol of the town the Elephant or “Liotro”, on its left the Municipal Palace (Estate protected by UNESCO), on the right Cleric’s Palace, Amenano Fountain, opposite the Cathedral (Estate protected by UNESCO) and the Diocesan Museum. After passing under the Arch (Porta Uzeda) and turning on the right , the traditional Fish-market (Pescheria), walking along via Bottino as far as Currò Square, Terme della Rotonda.

Route n° 2
Departure from piazza Duomo: in the centre the Elephant Fountain, on its left via Vitt.Emauele, going up to S.Francesco Square again you  meet the Church of S.Francesco all’Immacolata, turning on the right, through via Crociferi, it can be  admired the Church of S.Benedetto and the Jesuit College (Estate protected by UNESCO) and the Church of S.Giuliano, S.Francesco Borgia , going on to the crossing with via S.Giuliano and turning on the left, at the and of the way we find the Monastery of Benedectines (Estate protected by the UNESCO) and the Church of S.Nicolò l’Arena, where it can be admired the “Sundial” of 1841.

Route n° 3
Departure from piazza Duomo: visit of the Cathedral (Estate protected by UNESCO), at the Elephant Fountain, on its right the Amenano Fountain and behind it the Fish-market (Pescheria), going on via Garibaldi to number 82 and turning on the right you meet via S.Anna Museum of Verge’s house, returning  via Garibaldi and turning on the left to via Castle Ursine you arrive to piazza Federico di Svevia, where there is the Ursine Castle, seat of the Civic Museum.

Route n° 4

Departure from piazza Duomo: visit of  the Cathedral (Estate protected by UNESCO) in the centre the Elephant’s Fountain,   on  its left via Vitt. Emanuele at number 201, the Toy Museum, in S.Francesco square at number 9, the Bellini Museum and the Emilio Greco Museum, going on through via Vitt.Emaunele at number 262 the Roman theatre.

Route n° 5
Departure from piazza Duomo: visit of the Cathedral (Estate protected by UNESCO), going on along via Etnea on the left the Collegiate Church (Estate protected by UNESCO). Turning on the left via Collegiata, via Alessi, and on top of the stairs you meet via Crociferi, where the Churches of S.Francesco Borgia and of S.Giuliano can be admired. At the crossroad you meet via S.Giuliano. Going downhill and turning left you meet via Manzoni, piazza Stesicoro and the Roman Amphitheatre.

Route n° 6
Departure from piazza Duomo: visit of the Cathedral (Estate protected by UNESCO) following via Vitt.Emanuele piazza S.Placido and its Church, on the right via Museo Biscari at number 10 Palazzo Biscari (Estate protected by  UNESCO) coming out on the right, turn in to via Landolina as far as piazza Teatro Massimo with the V.Bellini theatre. Coming back in via Vitt.Emanuele turning on the left and taking the second street on the right, via Bonajuto, we meet the Byzantine Bonajuto Chapel.

Route n° 7
Departure from the Port: coming out on foot from the customs on the left, enter via Dusmet, as far as via Vecchia Bastione, going to piazza Duca di Genova, you meet the via Museo Biscari, at number 10 the Biscari Palace (Estate protected by  UNESCO) coming out and taking via Landolina you arrive to piazza Teatro Massimo with the V.Bellini Theatre, returning to  via Landolina you meet via Vitt.Emanuele, turning on the right you arrive to piazza Duomo, the  Cathedral and the Municipal building (Estate protected by  UNESCO) passing under the Arch (Porta Uzeda) and turning on the left, you come back to the port, turning on the right you meet the traditional fish market (Pescheria). 

Route n° 8
Departure from piazza Duomo: visit of the Cathedral (Estate protected by  UNESCO) going on through via Etnea on the left the University Building, the Collegiate Church (Estate protected by UNESCO) the Church of S.Michele Archangel ai Minority as far as piazza Stesicoro, the Roman Amphitheatre, walking  on via Etnea you reach the Villa Bellini, public garden of 1863.
